Girls Rolling and Learning STEM (GRLS) in Nature
TYO’s Girls Rolling and Learning STEM in Nature is a truly unique approach to helping girls in grades 5-8 understand a wide range of STEM topics and principles. Through bike rides and other nature-based activities, girls understand conceptual ideas within the STEM fields and their everyday applications. Through a generous grant from the Northern Virginia Community Foundation’s Business Women’s Giving Circle, TYO created a multi-week curriculum and a variety of activities. Using nature, bikes, and outdoor adventures, girls embrace and learn a stronger understanding of the possibilities and fun of pursuing a STEM pathway.
93% of the girls surveyed said using a bicycle to teach STEM helped them to understand the ideas and concepts.
